You are so right, Kay. It's always important to respect your audience and prepare as much as you can beforehand. Reading word for word from a document won't make you memorable and you'll miss out on opportunities to make eye contact with your audience.

The best thing about the cocktail napkin concept is that it doesn't allow a speaker to read word for word from a prepared presentation, which is pure agony. Almost as bad as hearing to someone speak each word of their powerpoint as though we can't read!
